Fashawn- Generation F

I'm amped to hear this new Fashawn track right now because it only means that 2012 is on the horizon and brand new Fashawn projects are that much closer.
2010 XXL Freshman Fashawn is back with his next project “Champagne and Styrofoam Cups” which is tentatively slated for a March 2012 release. Although Fashawn has been working on his followup album to Boy Meets World with producer Exile, he’s also been in the studio non stop recording with various producers. Champagne and Styrofoam Cups will be 12-14 original tracks accompanied with a 45 minute mini movie directed by Punit Dhesi. Here’s the latest track from Fashawn’s vaults “Generation F” produced by ATG. Look for more music and videos coming in the upcoming weeks.

Here is a new cut from Seattle squatter Sax G featuring guest vocals from one of my favorite new rappers (Nacho Picasso) and producers (Raised by Wolves) from the same spot in the Pacific North.

Sax G is also nice on the boards, so check out his Bandcamp page below and get the new song, along with a teaser pack freebie of his forthcoming Pootey Brown project.

Hellfyre Club Presents: Veneris Nigrum (Free Compilation)

On Black Friday Hellfyre Club released a free compilation that had people going nuts like it was a $2 waffle maker. Since my mind was walking within the hazy hallways of a white boy drunk food coma, I missed the bus on the waffle makers and the compilation, but here it is in all its glory.
We dropped a compilation today (Black Friday) on Twitter entitled "Veneris Nigrum" which translates from Latin to Black Friday. The compilation features our 2012 roster thus far: Nocando, Open Mike Eagle, KAIL, E.Super, Rheteric Ramirez, Subtitle, VerBS, Sahtyre and Pistol McFly.

This compilation is about the past, present and future. We have music that has been released ("Garbage" on Bong Rips and BARS, "Enlightenment" on The Buddah, "Nightmares" though this remix is new). We have music that is just for now and some that will be on future projects. With all of the retailers and merchants seeking money from the masses, we wanted to present a free offering to all who supported us before Black Friday and those who will support us afterward.

Please feel free to reach out to us with any questions/needs. Any support in spreading this compilation is greatly appreciated by us.

Thank you for your support these past two years.

Free Album: L'Orange- Old Soul

I really enjoy when producers put together "tribute"/"muse" projects dedicated to one artist. Almost every single time they end up being cohesive, tastefully executed, and full of focus and passion. North Carolina based beatsmith L'Orange's latest project, Old Soul, an audio tribute to the beautiful and incendiary Billie Holiday, is no different. Much like Dela's Robert Glasper beat tape and The Apple Juice Kid's nod to Miles Davis, L'Orange gathers a bushel of Billie's best and adds a twist of his own homegrown NC citrus that adds a new flavor to an already tasty slice of historic music.

L'Orange's new record is mostly instrumental, but below I'm going to go ahead and highlight the single vocal track that features Hassaan Mackey, yU, and Kelsey Lu because it's that fresh. The rest you can check out and stream/download on his bandcamp page.

I missed out on the first Derek 32zero leak with Kweli (see below), but I'm digging what this MC from Chesapeake, Virginia is dropping with Nottz.

Following the success of “Lift ‘Em Up” feat. Talib Kweli, VA emcee Derek 32zero drops the second single “Super Fantastic Sh*t” with production being handled again by the master of the ASR, Mr. Nottz Raw. This one is dedicated to all who enjoy riding around town bumping their favorite tunes. Derek 32zero’s I’m Not Bargaining is coming soon, so be on the lookout for more new music in the near future.

I've been following this dude for awhile and I have a feeling this is going to be his best release yet.

Watching The Throne (presented by Amalgam Digital & Fly Society) sees the Sac-town emcee takes Hov and Yeezy‘s advice and flips their theme with this concept album follows the the reign and fall of a newly-crowned “king.” The 20 track street release has features from Sundown (of Actual Proof), Sean Boog, Makeshift, Keno, Haz Solo, PCH, and Abstract Ninjaa.

Free Album: The Foodchain- Brunch

I came across this Denver, Colorado based bunch after peeping their "Dear Industry" video earlier today and I'm definitely digging their sound and overall ethos. It's not often you get a large collective going in cohesively year after year. Hopefully they continue to churn out records like Brunch and follow the path of fellow West Coast crews like Living Legends and Bored Stiff.

Here is some more background info, a free download of their new album, and the video for "Dear Industry."

The Foodchain, a hip hop collective based out of Denver, Colorado is a one of a kind team of MCs and producers. This band of “super friends” is vocally represented by four MCs: Mic Coats, C-1, FL, and ChampionSoundKillaBlack, internally dubbed “the offense”. The sound is driven by “the defense” led by by two incredible producers, Mass Prod and MoHeat, and accompanied by DJ Louiscide on keys, the ones and twos, and bass, and percussionist Alex The Great.

The Foodchain’s sound delivers cinematic and soulful wordplay over scores of electrifying funk and hip hop infused to rock & roll courtesy of the group’s in house production team. The Foodchain strives to embody the authentic elements of the hip hop culture from the endangered vinyl scratching DJ and live instrumentation used in production to the MCs ferocious wordplay and conscious lyrics.

Incredibly, this beat features NO SAMPLES...all of the sounds you hear were replayed/reprogrammed masterfully by K-Def.

This version appears on K-Def's upcoming "NIGHT SHIFT" project which will be available in December 2011 on VINYL, CD, CASSETTE & MP3 on Redefinition Records.Night Shift features 2 vocal tracks (Rob O & Raw Poetic) and a handful of instrumentals. An alternate version of SUPA HEATH track WAS also available on FLEXI DISC vinyl but has since been SOLD OUT (hold on to that one if you got a copy).

Sa-Ra Creative Partners Podcast Series 1-3

The people over at The Smoking Section put together a really dope series of Sa-Ra Creative Partners podcasts that definitely deserve your ear if you're a fan.
Our good friend of ours Zo is back with another nicely compiled collection. For this aural trip, he’s chosen the music of Sa-Ra, which happens to be a favorite group of both of his and mine.

“By now, Sa-Ra Creative Partners – the genre-bending producing and performing trio – has either captivated or confused the entire gamut of music heads and tastemakers alike. This podcast series (a scheduled trilogy) consists of interviews, album cuts, overlooked gems, rarities, exclusives and remixes to please current fans and entrance newcomers. Even greater, it can perhaps serve as a medium for folks who have been seeking a way to delve into the complex world of SRCP. Episode I: Voyage to Venus mostly boasts spacey funk and smooth dusty soul, showcasing the softer, amorous side of Sa-Ra’s catalog.”

Dumbfoundead- Cool and Calm

It's kind of hard to keep track of Los Angeles rapper Dumbfoundead nowadays. I remember when I first discovered the Swim Team crew through the Thirsty Fish album, Testing the Waters, and started following Dumb and Open Mike Eagle's career slowly unfold through physical mixtape releases (thanks to whichever Swim Team member sent me those back in the day through the mail) and Dumb's random YouTube videos that would spotlight how he sent out his CDs through the mail or walking through Koreatown. My how things have changed for that guy.

Swimming his way through millions of YouTube views and subscribers, sold out shows overseas, and his recent knockout relationship with Knocksteady, Dumbfoundead has emerged as the star from the Swim Team crew and continues his career with his most cohesive and fresh album to date, DFD. Released two weeks ago on iTunes and on Knocksteady, Dumb has already released a few leaks and videos that I had absolutely no clue about. So, allow me to catch up as you catch on.

You can also peep the video for BRB featuring Andrew Garcia below.

Rain Over St. Ambrose- Chemtrails of Happiness

A week after Curtis LeBlanc told his son Cory he’d rather see him be the frontman in a band than stuck behind the drums for the rest of his life, he suffered a massive heart attack and died.  The next day, Cory LeBlanc (once the drummer for Jon McKiel, Ruby Jean & The Thoughtful Bees, and others) packed up his kit and picked up his guitar.

Assembling a band with his brother, Curt, and some of Yarmouth’s best up-and-coming musicians, Cory christened Rain Over St. Ambrose – a testament to the weather on the day of their father’s funeral – and began churning out pop-rock anthems.

Chemtrails of Happiness is the intro track on their new Overton Window EP. Airy yet pleasantly eerie, the track will paint murals of crisply executed indie-pop throughout the cities between your ears.

Free Album: Spanish Prisoners- Gold Fools

Ever since "chillwave" crashed onto the internet shoreline, there has been a flood of bands fronted by midi controller pounding posers that are in love with layered vocals. Despite their strength in numbers, a lot of these bands lack the chops and charisma to pull of engaging music like their predecessors, but I did recently find a shiny golden nugget of sound blossoming out of the bricks of Bushwick.

Spanish Prisoners are a rising indie rock quartet from Brooklyn, New York that mix hazy, ethereal electronic sounds with psychedelic vocals and dreamy instrumentation. Leo Maymind fronts their floaty faction and sometimes is accompanied by Amberly Hungerfor's delicate back up lungs to add body to their clouds of noise. Their debut album, Gold Fools, released last month for free on their bandcamp site, holds nine tracks of a trend captured and cultivated rather than mirrored and mauled. Instead of sounding like yet another New York dream-psych band, Spanish Prisoners shuffled through the shackles and emerged a free band with hands and mouths full of authentic gold.

Gold Fools is one of those albums that is better understood and consumed by listening to it all the way through, but I will drop off two of my favorite singles to give you a taste. You can also download the album by visiting the links below.

Free Instrumental Album: Memorecks- Downtime

Memorecks is a dope producer from Toronto that I accidentally came across a few months ago after a night of Youtube confusion. A few months ago, I covered a few of his addicting youtube videos and a free release he dropped around that time called Camcorder. I happened to check in on his website last night and found that he is still hard at work pounding pads and blessing us with free music.

Downtime is his latest 19-track offering featuring a slew of his signature spacey slaps. Here is a sample below, as well as the album download. When you get a chance, check out his Youtube page to see him in action.

Since the #Rapgod doesn't do mixtapes, this album is to hold over all Casual's fans until the release, HE Still Think HE Raw, set to release the first quarter of 2012.

After searching for local hip hop acts here in Austin a few months ago, I came across a MC by the name of Kydd. After watching a few of his videos, I could instantly tell that this was the guy that could finally put the Texas capital on hip hop's radar. It has been over three years since the release of his last Sounds in My Head mixtape, but the follow up is already shaping up to be his coup de grâce before moving up to the next level of his career.

Celph Titled & Buckwild- While You Slept ft. Laws

Following up last year’s critically acclaimed release, “Nineteen Ninety Now”, comes an additional bonus set from the MC/Producer duo of Celph Titled & Buckwild. Aptly titled “Nineteen Ninety MORE”, this jam-packed double disc serves as a companion title to the well received “Ninety Now.” Due to popular demand, this release features four unreleased songs from the original sessions, which include guest appearances from Cella Dwellas, Outerspace, Laws (J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League), Kwest (formerly Kwest Tha Madd Lad) and Lord Digga. Also included are the three previously vinyl-only cuts “The Celph Titled Show”, “Nothin’ To Say (feat. Rise)” and “There Will Be Blood [Remix] (feat. DITC and Brand Nubian)”. In addition, all the instrumentals for these songs are gathered here, along with a second disc that contains the entire instrumental version of the original “Ninety Now” LP (including all interlude tracks and four bonus beats). This specially priced 2xCD is the perfect addendum for anyone who owns “Ninety Now” and is an essential piece for any Buckwild/DITC production enthusiast.
