Here are two tracks from Russian producer Rewind Back that I randomly stumbled upon. Dance In the Night is real nice. I can't wait to see what else he drops in the future.

Poem-Cees is made up of three DMV artists: Black Picasso, DP aka Natural Law, and DJ Stylus. Mostly known for their slam poetry contributions, Poem-Cees have been rocking crowds around the nations capital for years, while releasing five projects since their unveiling at the turn of the millennium (I.O.U. Street, Paranoia, S.P.P. (Storm, Priest, Poem-cees), Have A Nice Day, The Solitair Mixtape: Everything You've Never Wanted, Everything You've Always Wanted). Their latest project features production and guest vocals from numerous celebrated DC area artists, such as: Oddisee, Priest Da Nomad, Asheru, Kokayi, Apex, Roddy Rod, Ardamus, Storm, and more.

Kool Keith is a fucking nutcase. Kool Keith is a genius.
Post Dr. Octagon, Black Elvis, Dr. Dooom, Big Willie Smith, Rhythm X, and Sinister 6000, Keith has continued to entertain and morph with the times as Tashan Dorrsett; a "real", regular urban dweller that deals with life's daily struggles and represents the essence of urban living and ghetto struggles, according to Keith. Tashan is also a character that can be solely associated with DJ Junkaz Lou's electro-funk fused production that Keith was instantly drawn to some years ago when he was in search for next level sounds that differed from the old hat sample driven music he was growing bored of in New York.
In 2009, the 21 track long Tashan Dorrsett album was unveiled. It was a departure from his weird, sci-fi/fantasy oriented characters and instead offered up a gritty Bronx reality show, starring Tashan as the antihero. The record received mixed reactions, but I really enjoyed it when it dropped.
Earlier this year, a few choice selections from that record received remixes from DJ Junkaz Lou, Domingo, Marley Marl, and more. These are two of my favorite Tashan remixes below. You can peep and purchase the album here.

Rogue Venom is one of the best "new" female MC making music today, bar none. Her recent contributions to the hip hop world have unfortunately slipped under the radar, but I've been highly anticipating her solo work since I caught a whiff of her skill on "Piranhas", a Swim Team collabo track from Thirsty Fish's 2008 album Testing the Waters, and her recent collaborations on Dr. Oop's The Grateful Dead record.
Here are two singles from her upcoming solo project, Sick Sad World, set to release on September 25th. I also added the Dr. Oop cuts via YouTube.

Lushlife- Motivation
Lushlife tackles the Lil B and Clams Casino joint.
OKP: This new Lushlife joint (premiere!) exists at the meeting point of two countervailing forces; the gritty poetry of the rap and the fuzzy, gauzy dream sequence of the Clams Casino backing track which sounds like your mental radio is picking up transmissions from another era and/or universe. Somehow it all fits together and after all what would you expect from a cat who shares his name with a great American novel about urban professionals and hood kids both trying to get over in the constant scuffle of the Lower East Side? No More Golden Days–LL’s follow up to Cassette City, drops sometime in October (full tracklisting after the jump).Download: Lushlife- Motivation

DTMD- Makin' Dollas
DTMD (Dunc & Toine Makin' Dollas) has officially released their debut album! To celebrate the exclusive early itunes release, DTMD is giving away the title track "Makin' Dollas". The new album features DMV representers Kev Brown, Oddisee, Drew Kid, yU, Quartermaine, and Godly MC.
About the Song:The title track, Makin' Dollas, kicks off with Toine announcing his intentions: "The syntax is stress relief, in other words, if we speaking candidly, I be spittin' for the sanity, not really for the vanity." This style of articulate, sharp wordplay infuses Dunc's production with the kind of wise, intelligent raps that make listeners hit rewind. The beat itself is a working man's boom bap replete with lush guitar and vinyl scratches.
About the Album:Dunc’s rich, full-bodied production serves as a natural backdrop to Toine’s technically astute rhymes, layered deep with smooth instrumentation evocative of such luminaries as J. Dilla, DJ Jazzy Jeff, and Pete Rock, each of whom shaped the classic hip hop sounds of Dunc’s childhood. Toine’s energy and bright delivery belie wisdom beyond his years, inspiring deep reflection as easily as sharp battle fare and complex rhyme schemes. Maintaining a close working relationship with PG neighbor Oddisee and assuming a strong presence in the collective atmosphere of the DMV’s hip hop scene, DTMD appeared separately on MMG’s “Helpless Dreamer” compilation, Toine rhyming on “Different Now” and Dunc producing Stik Figa’s “From the Top.” Now the debut album Makin' Dollas hits itunes for an early pre-release exclusive today September 20th! The CD release is next tuesday September 27th with a vinyl edition coming down the road.

Jenova 7 is nom de plume of Michael J. Sirois, a Boston born trip-hop musician and independent filmmaker currently living in Los Angeles. He is a member of the Dusted Wax Kingdom label and recently released Dusted Jazz Vol. 1 as a free download. The EP is exactly what the title says-- a simple five track ride through moody, dark, and dusty jazz laced hip hop beats.

Until today, I've never heard of Nacho Picasso out of Seattle, Washington (Thanks, Sniper). But with the otherworldly production duo Blue Sky Black Death and Raised By Wolves behind him, Nacho has the potential to be an instant smash hit with underground hip hop heads and swag rap aficionados alike.
On my second go around with his new free album For the Glory, I have officially become a fan of Nacho's nonchalant talk-rap delivery and voice reminiscent of Luckyiam on lean. At first, Blue Sky Black Death/Rasied by Wolves' overwhelming and vaporous production was overshadowing Nacho's presence, but eventually my ear caught up to his original wit and punchlines. To me, this is one of Blue Sky Black Death's best collaborations with an MC, crushing the output of Jean Grae, Hell Razah, and artists featured on A Heap of Broken Images. With the popularity of acts like Asap Rocky, Main Attrackionz, Clams Casino on the rise, Picasso, BSBD, and Raised by Wolves have an undeniable chemistry that rivals the output of these guys on the opposite coast.
Check out a few of my favorite songs from the album below, as well as the full album stream & download.

Gary Clark Jr.
Over the weekend I came to a conclusion that I need to dive deeper into what the local Austin music scene has to offer. After finding a few dope hip hop acts to follow, I came across an Austin artist that has been making noise locally since he was 17 years old: Gary Clark Jr.
With a day in Austin (May 3rd) already named after him at 17, Gary Clark Jr. has become one of the most heralded blues artists working today. Rarely does an artist explode onto the music scene with the force and impact of a comet. But when it does happen — as it did when 26-year-old singer-guitarist Gary Clark Jr. delivered an incendiary debut performance of his song “Bright Lights” at Eric Clapton's 2010 Crossroads Guitar Festival last June — the result is magical. Funky, hip, and badass, Gary Clark Jr. is a rocking soul man for a new generation.
Born and raised in Austin, TX, Clark began playing guitar at age 12. He performed small gigs throughout his early teens before popping up on the radar of legendary promoter Clifford Antone, owner of Austin blues club Antone's. Through Clifford's connections, Clark was soon sitting in with and learning from an array of musical icons, including Jimmie Vaughan. Vaughan, and others in the Austin music community, mentored Clark along his path, facilitating his steady rise on the Texas music scene. His peers have showered him with acclaim for his galvanizing live performances. In 2001, Austin’s mayor, Kirk Watson, declared May 3rd to be “Gary Clark Jr. Day.” Clark was 17 years old.
Clark went on to win the Austin Music Award for Best Blues and Electric Guitarist on three separate occasions, in addition to receiving awards from various blues magazines and associations around the country. After playing the nationally televised show Austin City Limits and touring with such artists as Jimmie Vaughan, Pinetop Perkins, and Doyle Bramhall II, Clark released two self-produced albums, and composed the original score for the film Full Count. Clark’s creative versatility and love for not just blues, but also soul, hip-hop, classic rock, and jam bands, has allowed him to transcend his own musical talents. He starred alongside Danny Glover and Stacy Keach in John Sayles’ 2007 film Honeydripper.
In 2010, Clark was the only young newcomer to be selected by Eric Clapton to perform at the Crossroads Guitar Festival, where he performed with Doyle Bramhall II and Sheryl Crow. A DVD of the show, released last November, led to Clark’s signing with Warner Bros. Records for whom he is currently working on his major-label debut album. Clark’s singular talent has also attracted a bevy of artist support, including accolades from Sheryl Crow, Citizen Cope, Damian Marley, Ron Wood, and Questlove. As the latter recently Tweeted after witnessing a December performance at New York’s Brooklyn Bowl: “I don’t think y’all understand the greatness that is in front of you. Gary Clark Jr. is kickin’ ass and takin’ names.”
The Bright Lights EP is available now on iTunes.

If you pay attention to smart blog buzz than you might already know who Mr. Muthafuckin' eXquire is. If not, Lost in Translation is the perfect starting point and a mixtape that is supposed to catapult eXquire into the upper echelon of up and coming New York reppin' rappers.
For those that like to follow co-signs from other artists, eXquire has already been embraced by El-P and Danny Brown, which I hope turns into many more future collaborations like the hidden remix you might find in the download below.
Despite the tape falling short of all the hype he has been receiving from various celebrated underground artists and east coast websites, exQuire's potential is still showcased in songs like Huzzah!, I Should Be Sleepin', and Maltese Falcon, but the fumbling use of Cannibal Ox beats and his presence on the other tracks didn't hit me as hard as Huzzah originally did and what I expected LIT to provide.
With that being said, I'm still looking out for eX.

On Thursday June 2, 2011 at The Little Bar in South Philadelphia; Mndsgn, Swarvy, Sir Froderick, Knxwledge, Josh Hey and Stainless Steele came together to play a live show that they called “Blasphemous Jazz”. The concept for the show was that each artist would produce the re-workings of Miles Davis’ ‘Bitches Brew’ album. Each producer played a live set which included their Bitches Brew session. The show was hosted/Emceed by Stainless Steele. This release is the studio version of what was performed live that night.Download: Blasphemous Jazz- The Bitches Brew Session

It has been awhile since I heard rumors that Athletic Mic League were back together for another album (supposed to be called Jungle Gym Jungle?). I still remember the night in my dorm room in 2000-2001 (Napster era) when I first came across their Lyrictricity 12". Here is the first leak, as well as some background info I snatched from one of my ancient blog posts at another site.
Athletic Mic League "Get Go" (Prod. by Vaughan T) by 14KT
The six emcees of Athletic Mic League came together while still attending high school in Ann Arbor, MI. Known then as the Anonymous Clique: Buff, 14KT, Grand Champ, Texture, Tres Styles, and Vital joined forces with DJ Haircut and after two years of love and support from the local hip-hop community they made it official. Athletic Mic League was out to show the world what their brand of hip hop was all about.
By 1998 AML had blessed high school talent shows, house parties, and hip hop nights across Detroit. Following up with their underground classic demo The Thrill of Victory, The Agony of Defeat, the buzz grew to deafening levels. In 1999 they settled in Jersey City, quickly building their reputation and skills in the neighboring New York hip-hop scene.

Awon- Supreme Flows
It's been awhile since we have heard from Awon, but here is a random loosie he recently released for the hell of it. You might remember Awon from his underrated Beautiful Loser album that dropped a few years back that had tracks like this:

Ryan Hemsworth of Halifax, Nova Scotia has making beats for seven years. Now, at the ripe age of 21, he is taking the internet by storm with his oddly infectious instrumental projects. My first peek into Hemsworth's world was his 2011 album, No Plans. On this album, Ryan haphazardly hoards 80's pop, modern electro, funk, soul, dirty south production, and vintage Nintendo cuts, while blanketing them in crisp, hard hitting drums.
The 12-track freebie was released in May, but with tracks like Good Things Can Never Last, we can skip over the ol' "I got too much new shit on my hands to give something old a chance" thing that the music nerd/internet generation does.
Bask in the samples & bathe in the download below.

Lushlife- Back On My Slang ft. QuESt
From Order of Operations to Cassette City, Philadelphia based rapper/producer Lushlife has been one of my favorite artists that's been flying under the radar for the better part of a decade. A friend of mine recently let me know that Lush was working on a new album (Plateau Vision), so I immediately began my hunt to re-connect with Lush post-myspace and found him on hip hop's newest networking domain.
Before Plateau Vision drops in October, Lushlife is preparing a mixtape called No More Golden Days that will feature guest spots from Heems from Das Racist, STS, Dice Raw, and more. Here is the first leak with Miami MC QuESt killing a double-time flow.

I just came across Toronto, Canada based beatsmith Memorecks today and have been hooked on his YouTube channel ever since. Using various midi controllers, keyboards, and MPCs, Memorecks is making a name for himself by filming his live beat making sessions, Ableton tutorials, and fucking around with other production equipment he gets to play with from his job at a local music store.
Recently, Memorecks also put out one of his first releases, Camcorder, which is a small collection of his best beats from his YouTube videos. Here is the download below, as well as a few sound samples and videos.

As usual, the 215 foursome kill it. If you need a sample of the tape before committing to a download, just peep the first track after the intro.

Oddisee- Mattered Much ft. Olivier Daysoul
Oddisee's Rock Creek Park is officially available everywhere today on CD! To celebrate Oddisee is giving away the special edition vocal version of the track Mattered Much.
Mattered Much was not initially made for Rock Creek Park, but after putting together nine songs for the album, Oddisee went back into the hard drive, rediscovered this song up, and realized it was perfect for the album. Oddisee's really proud of the drum programming on this track, it took him "a long ass time to program all those rolls". The guitars played by Andy Faus give it such a grimy feel while Lucan Pipkin’s strings polish the track. Definitely a track produced by the ’96 Reasonable Doubt in Oddisee, meeting up with the 4Hero in him. This is the official vocal version of the track featuring Olivier Daysoul.

Poetic Republic- Summer Dream x Tell Me What It Is x We Go
I post a lot of artists on the rise and a lot of artists that other sites don't cover (for whatever reason) and if I had to choose one group from my years of hip hop blogging that deserves a look from the rest of the blogosphere, it would be Cleveland, Ohio's Poetic Republic.
Almost a year ago to date, I posted their 2008 LP, The Natural Progression of Things, and a mixtape of live recordings and unreleased studio cuts called The Blackest Man Alive. After their move to Brooklyn, Poetic Republic have been hard at work on a new album set for a March 2012 release date entitled Future World.
Here are three tracks from their forthcoming album, as well as a re-up of all the stuff I've posted in the past. Wake up.
