Kool Keith is a fucking nutcase. Kool Keith is a genius.
Post Dr. Octagon, Black Elvis, Dr. Dooom, Big Willie Smith, Rhythm X, and Sinister 6000, Keith has continued to entertain and morph with the times as Tashan Dorrsett; a "real", regular urban dweller that deals with life's daily struggles and represents the essence of urban living and ghetto struggles, according to Keith. Tashan is also a character that can be solely associated with DJ Junkaz Lou's electro-funk fused production that Keith was instantly drawn to some years ago when he was in search for next level sounds that differed from the old hat sample driven music he was growing bored of in New York.
In 2009, the 21 track long Tashan Dorrsett album was unveiled. It was a departure from his weird, sci-fi/fantasy oriented characters and instead offered up a gritty Bronx reality show, starring Tashan as the antihero. The record received mixed reactions, but I really enjoyed it when it dropped.
Earlier this year, a few choice selections from that record received remixes from DJ Junkaz Lou, Domingo, Marley Marl, and more. These are two of my favorite Tashan remixes below. You can peep and purchase the album here.
