Lord Newborn and the Magic Skulls was the collaborative project of Beastie Boys keyboardist Money Mark, funk impresario Shawn Lee, and former skate pro slash wicked guitarist Tommy Guerrero. In the winter of 2008 they locked themselves away in Money Mark’s Los Angeles-based studio for two weeks and recorded thirteen tracks full of Cali-laced acid funk, jazz, and mind blowing psychedelic rock that never got the widespread attention it deserved in 2009.
This instrumental "super group" lives up to their reputation on every track. Each member displays their dexterity with their preferred instrument, seemingly never repeating a style or method, but clash cohesively as they fabricate staples of 60's and 70's soul, jazz, funk, blues, and rock into a modern melee of beautiful noise.
